Tell us about your business
Wild One Wealth offers an approachable (even fun!) way to learn about personal finance, through our “Wine and Wealth” events, blogs and coaching. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where learning about a sticky subject (money!) is less intimidating and to help people learn how to enjoy life now while also planning for the future.
What made you decide to become a business owner?
I kept getting questions from friends and family about how to handle their personal finances. They didn’t want to ask someone who was trying to sell them a product. While away on a trip to Africa, my friend (and now business partner) Alison and I decided that it would be fun to start a venture which helped young people get unbiased financial advice.
When you were making your business official, what did you tackle first?
Our name! That took us a while to land on. . .we have a pretty funny list of failed names.
Also, our website. Since there are so many great platforms to create websites, we decided to try and do it ourselves (well Alison did, she did an amazing job getting our website up and running!). Additionally, we got professional photos, emails and business cards, as well as getting incorporated and creating a business bank account
Are there any tips you would like to share with other business owners or future business owners?
Make sure that you balance creativity and risk-taking, while also being organized and really thoughtful about your decisions. I think that you need both to succeed in the long-term. Alison and I are really lucky that we have different backgrounds and strengths which happen to be on both of those sides, so we naturally have that balance.
When you’re first launching – once you’re proud of your product or service, try sending whatever you have created out into the world! If you wait until you feel 100% ready, you may never do it. We did this by scheduling our first Wine and Wealth event. We were still a bit nervous about having everything in-place and letting everyone know what we were up to, but it gave us the last push we needed. It’s always scary to put yourself out there, but it’s totally worth it!
