Getting started can be the hardest part of launching a new business—something that’s become even more difficult with the challenges of COVID-19. That’s the main reason we’ve partnered with Staples, Shopify, and Moneris to create Canada Starts and bring grant funding directly to aspiring entrepreneurs when they need it most. What business dream could you bring to life with $5,000?
What is Canada Starts?
Canada Starts is a joint campaign between Ownr, Shopify, Staples, and Moneris, awarding $5,000 grants to 40 select winners with standout business plans. Applications open September 15.
Who can apply?
Anyone who’s starting a new business in Canada. If you’ve been sitting on a great business idea, this is the time to launch it!
How do I apply?
Click here to submit an application between September 15 and October 15, 2020.
What’s included in the application process?
The application and selection process involves two phases. All successful applicants must meet the evaluation criteria of both phases in order to receive the full $5,000 grant.
In Phase One, you must provide your business idea/concept, how the grant funding will be used, a copy of your business plan, and contact details.
Successful applicants of Phase One will receive $2,500 in grant funding and will be asked to demonstrate that they have established an online presence for their business (i.e business website, social media presence for the business, and/or Google MyBusiness Page) and proof that they have registered a business name (either provincially or federally) in Phase Two in order to be eligible to receive the second tranche of $2,500 in grant funding.
What makes a strong application?
Applications will be assessed on the basis of specific evaluation criteria in Phase One, including the quality of responses and thoroughness of their business plan. Don’t worry if you’ve never written a business plan, we made a complete guide on how to write a business plan to help you through the process.
